Leukemia Journey

As some of you might already know, on January 27th, 2010 my husband Marion  was diagnosed with a blood cancer called chronic lymphocytic  leukemia CLL. This is how I learned of the commitment and work of The Leukemia Society
http://www.lls.org/

I'm training to walk in the Disney Half Marathon with The Leukemia &Lymphoma Society's Team In Training Program. Team In Training is a fund raising and a marathon-training program that will prepare me, along with my teammates, for the challenges of walking a ½ marathon while fund raising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

They are a national voluntary health agency dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease and myeloma. My interest in walking the ½ marathon with this awesome society is in honor of my husband, Marion Douglas, who is in the process of fighting leukemia and to support the more than 885,000 Americans who have been affected by these blood cancers. The money raised will go towards improving the quality of life of patients and their families.

My personal goal is to raise $2,200, and you can help. Some of you may be thinking of donating the entire sum, others larger or smaller, which ever it is, donating is easy! You can write a check to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (go to www.lls.org for mailing address) directly and put for

"TEAM MARION" on the memo line or you may send it to me (Londa Schexnayder Douglas),
P.O.Box 453 Montclair CA. 91763) made out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society directly "TEAM MARION" Or, you can use a credit or debit card. Just click on my link on this page.

Type in the amount you want to donate and click Donate Now! I hope you will visit my web site often. Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. If you are not sure how much to donate let me help. You could make a flat donation: $25, $50, $100.... $25,000 etc. Every bit counts and gets me and my teammates much closer to our goal and all of us much closer to a cure.

All donations are tax deductible, so please make sure you keep your receipt. On be half of  my husband, my team, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, myself and 100s of thousands of people who will benefit from your generosity, I would like to THANK YOU for your time and support.

Living with Leukemia

Today is a good day for some people and not so good for others. People with Leukemia are fighting to live. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are doing things to have this be different for the people with this disease and their family. Leukemia is a blood cancer, and one of the symptoms for people with this disease is difficulty with breathing.

What happens with this disease, is that the white blood cells are being produced so fast that it crowds out the red blood cells, and therefore slows down or stops the red blood cells from producing. The red blood cells are the cells that carry oxygen throughout the body.

When Marion was diagnosed with this condition I had no understanding of this at all and getting support from the Leukemia Lymphoma Society has made me aware of how many lives have been saved because of their dedication.

I watch and wait to see how he is doing everyday. Everything has changed. Some days are good and other days we end up in the emergency room.
We know he has 3-4 weeks before he needs another transfusion.

Since December 4th 2009, he has been admitted 8 times and 6 of those times he was transfused. I am saying all of this to inform you of what's going on and to ask for your support in finding a cure and supporting the families living with Leukemia.

I am doing my part in educating people about Leukemia and walking in a 1/2 marathon to bring awareness about Leukemia. Please I am asking will you support by making a donations to my cause. Your donations is greatly appreciated and needed, and I thank you so much for your support and your time. ( click the link on this page).

Thank you,
Love Londa
